BLOG #4

Slope/rate of change
1. What does the slope of a line represent? THE RATE OF CHANGE
2. How do you find the slope of a line given the equation? Given the graph? SOLVE FOR "M" WHICH IS THE SLOPE BY FINDING THE Y INTERCEPT.
3. Why can slope be interpreted as a rate of change? IT DETERMINES WHAT "Y" IN Y=MX+B IS.

x and y intercepts
4. How does identifying the x and y-intercepts of a linear equation help you graph the line? IF YOU CAN IDENTIFY THE X AND Y INTERCEPTS THEN YOU CAN FIND THE POINTS ON THE GRAPH AND CONNECT THE POINTS TO MAKE A LINE ON THE GRAPH.

Slope intercept form
5. Why is the equation y=mx+b referred to as the slope intercept form of a linear equation? IT'S A PRETTY SIMPLE FORMULA TO REMEMBER. Y=MX+B IS KNOWN AS SLOPE INTERCEPT BECAUSE ALL THE NUMBERS YOU'LL SEE IS THE SLOPE AND THE "Y" INTERCEPT.
6. How do you graph linear equations given in slope-intercept form? FIRST PLOT THE POINT OF "Y" AND THEN START TO PLOTTING THE POINTS FROM YOUR "Y" INTERCEPT WITH THE SLOPE.

7. How do YOU determine which method is best to graph with comparing the 3 methods studied? I FEEL SLOPE INTERCEPT IS THE MOST EASIEST FORMULA TO REMEMBER BECAUSE I ONLY NEED TO FIND TO NUMBERS.

Translations
8. Come up with a set of three functions that would be considered a family of functions. Explain.
9. How is the graph of f(x) = x related to the graph of h(x) = -2x-3? FUNCTION FORM TRANSFORMED INTO A FUNCTION
10. How can changes in slope affect a graph? SLOPE DETERMINES WHERE THE NEXT POINT IS.
11. How can changes in the y-intercept affect a graph? THE "Y" INTERCEPT DETERMINES WHETHER THE GRAPH STARTS POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE.

Weeks in Review
VIRUS PROJECT
12. What are all of the things that you learned mathematically about during the Create your own Virus Project? PLOTTING POINTS AND MAKING SLOPES
13. What did you learn about yourself during the project? (need to ask more questions, take better notes, utilize time....etc.....) I LEARNED THAT I COULD MAKE MY OWN EQUATIONS AND INEQUALITIES
13. What was challenging about the VIRUS project for you? WAS TO MAKE UP OUR OWN PROBLEMS FROM SCRATCH
14. Looking at your creativity level, what would your rate yourself on a
scale of 1-10? PROBABLY A "6"
15. Looking at your mathematics learned and achieved, what grade would you give yourself from A - Z? I WOULD GIVE MYSELF A "C+"

DISASTER AMONGST US
16. How can creating functions from 2 pieces of data help us in a real world situation? BY SHOWING PROBABLE REASONS FOR FUTHER PREDICTIONS
17. What world problem did you focus on when creating your function? JACK IN THE BOX
18. How can knowing YOUR function, help researchers in predicting or fixing the disaster in the future? I CANT

NOTES
19. How will collaborating on notes help with your mathematics now, for projects, and for classwork? BY NOT JUST LEARNING EVERYTHING ON MY OWN, BUT BY ALSO LEARNING FROM MY COLLABORATING PEERS.
20. How can you create the notes so that they can be used in different courses? I DONT KNOW
21. What are you going to focus on to make sure that they are notes that work for you? JUST WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN.

Blog 3

Well i liked that we got to create and draw our own picture of what we felt like. The challenging part of this project was to create the equations in different forms. It took a really long time. We learned how to create and shade in inequalities. To me it was fairly easy to learn about inequalities and I wouldn't change a thing about the project i've just done.

My Goals for the beginning of the year was to keep up with all the work that will be assign to me. its a real help to know your grades of all time.I pretty much absorbed as much as I could when sitting at my desk. I rate myself as moderate but i can do more and rate my teacher's performance with instructing and being very humorous when teaching.

Virus Project

  1. Y = -13/10x + 13
  2. Y = -3/2x - 7
  3. Y = 4/3x + 13.3
  4. Y = -4/3x + 13.3
  5. Y = 4/3x - 6
  6. Y - 8 = 3/2 ( x - 10 )
  7. Y + 7 = 1 ( x + 11 )
  8. Y - 4 = -1 ( x + 11 )
  9. Y + 4 = 1 ( x + 8 )
  10. Y + 7 = -1 ( x + 8 )
  11. x + y = 4
  12. x + y = -15
  13. x + y = -18
  14. -x + y = -15
  15. x + y = 22
  16. F(x) = x + 3
  17. F(x) = x + 3
  18. F(x) = -x
  19. F(x) = -x + 3
  20. F(x) = -x + 3
  21. Y > x + 22
  22. Y <=  x + 22

A new bug has arrived to the updated cybernet world. The new virus can melt your hardware within 20 minutes when it hits. I need to make an anti-virus to counter attack the new age virus spreading throughout the cyber world. Maybe this anti-virus will obliderate the virus.

Class Summary

Today 10/18/10
I have learned how to create functions for real life situations, learned how to tell right off the bat if a graph is a function or not, and also learned what the letters mean in functions and numbers as well.

CLASS BLOG

This week compare to last week feels the same to me. I feel like I'm just recylcing myself over and over again. Some ?'s that Mr. F gives out could be a little challenging and I get stuck sometimes, but I think Mr. F should give us all his knowing about math.
Well the benefits for using Technology now is to be quicker with the assignments we are given. So the faster we work the more work we get done quicker, but also means getting more work after that. Sometimes I do wish I can just go back and take about a month to just carve an essay in stone.
The website that Mr. F gave us link to gives you the answers to any math equation. There are some flaws, after they give you the answer they really dont explain how the problem has been solved. That to me is a big disadvantage because Mr. F wants us to know how to find the answer by steps so we would know how to any other similar problem we might come along.
My favorite part of class has to be when i Learn something new in Math like a new theorem, equation, and formulas and stuff like that.

Blog #2

I approached class this week with more insight of what to expect other than last week not knowing what to expect. Technology now is a resourceful tool in teaching students other than standard old school teaching techniques they used back then. Using Wolfram is awesome but it has a flaw because it doesn't show the work on how it got the answer when asking a math problem. My favorite part of class is when we learn something new because it gives me a challenge. if i was a teacher i would be like Mr. Fournier and just make everyone get in groups and work on assignments all class. Mathematicians show their work cuz to show proof.
